Full Circle: A Special Moment in Shirley History

This week marks four years since the passing of Kevin Partridge, who sadly died on 22nd June 2021.

Kevin was a well-known and respected figure across Shirley and Hall Green during the 1970s and ’80s, running Partridges Greengrocers—a proud family business built on hard work, integrity, and community spirit. Alongside his brother Steve and parents Ron and Margaret, Kevin created something that was more than just a shop; it was a part of everyday life for local families.

While reflecting on his legacy, a long-lost moment from Shirley’s past was recently rediscovered. In the 1980s, Kevin appeared in an episode of Beadle’s About, filmed outside the Haslucks Green Road shop. In the clip, a fresh-faced Kevin is seen watching as one of his staff members is unknowingly set up in a hilarious prank involving a fake royal visit—courtesy of Jeremy Beadle. The episode became the talk of the town at the time and remains a much-loved piece of local nostalgia.

After years of trying to locate the footage—particularly during Kevin’s illness—we finally found it thanks to modern technology. It’s a moment that brings back so many memories, and we’re looking forward to sharing it with his father Ron, still going strong at 90, and with the wider community who remember those early days of the Partridge family business.

While the greengrocers may be part of the past, the values Kevin lived by remain central to Partridge Homes—the estate and letting agency he founded with Charlotte over 20 years ago. What began as a small, family-run operation has grown into a multi-award-winning business that still carries the same morals, service standards and people-first approach that Kevin championed.

Today, Partridge Homes continues under the guidance of Charlotte (Managing Director), Susan (Lettings Director and Kevin’s wife), and Kevin’s sons Calum and Paul, alongside a fantastic and expanding team. We are proud to say Kevin’s legacy lives on—not just in spirit, but in achievement.

Watching the footage from the 1980s feels like a powerful reminder that the foundations Kevin laid—his work ethic, community focus, and commitment to doing things properly—are still shaping our business today.

We’ll continue building on that legacy, staying true to the Partridge name, and always doing our very best to make Kevin proud.
